A stay of execution is an interim measure against irreparable harm if a judgment is enforced at once. It is sought with appeal or cassation and needs reasons showing a serious dispute and a risk of enforcement.

When do you need it? When a judgment is enforceable and imminent harm cannot easily be repaired.
